This model of the Cockerham Sands Bombing Range Quadrant Tower was made during the course of a two day geophysics session, undertaken by volunteers with staff from Durham University and the Morecambe Bay Partnership. While everone cycled through the various geophysics tasks I was asked to quickly demonstrate the process for capturing photos for photogrammetric model making. Thanks everyone who helped with the photos and moving bags/wire/equipment out of shots.The tower was shot over the course of an hour from the ground and a 5-metre mast, so there is no roof to the model; the two small rooms below the stairs were not photographed internally due to barbed wire and vegetation. A more detailed photographic capture and, ideally, a drone for overhead views would fix the texture glitches here and there - maybe a project for the future.
At the Downtown Las Vegas intersection of Hoover and S. Casino Center you will find this group of buildings covered in graffiti. This scan was shot with a Sony A7, 24mm lens, f/11, tripod, remote control, 540 images, then processed in Reality Capture, decimated to 1 million polygons, and cleaned up in Maya. The sky dome is a rough montage of 3 7k HDR panoramics shot just after the scan, but they can be used later for lighting in any 3D package. It was a rare cloudy morning in LV so perfect for scanning, but by the time I finished and shot the panos it was very direct strong noon sunlight. These textures and panos have been boosted quite a bit in Nuke, but it really is a colorful and impressive graffiti park, congratulations to the artists who work here. It is scaled to real world and should look great in Sketchfab VR.
Very early test. Trying to figure out what’s the absolute minimum pictures needed by Memento to work with. So far, 24 seems to that number (with a few holes and other glitches) Output done with Memento in Draft Mode. No retopology.
This is a dense point cloud obtained using SfM10 (Structure from Motion free software) and MVS10 (Multi-View Stereo free software) available at3D Software. This is my own implementation of Structure from Motion and Multi-View Stereo as applied to stereo photogrammetry.
