My concept was taking the familiar silhouettes and shapes of the staunton chess pieces as we know them and simplifying the forms and renewing their 3D shapes for 3D printing, allowing some interesting hollow pieces such as with the silhouette of the Knight or the cross shape of the King and also allowing a little 3D printing flair on the pawns to liven them up a little.
Alpha chess. The aim of this chess set was to create a simple and conceptual design, that besides being usable as a chess set, will look cool in your interior when not in use.Instead of modeling recognisable chess pieces, I used the first letter of the name of the chess piece -with the exception of the Knight, to prevent confusion with the King.Because of the alphanumeric character of the design, its named Alpha chess.Have fun with printing and playing with this chess set, Kevin Koekkoek

Chess Set - Profiles - Mk1pinshape.com
This is the first in my series of profiles chess piece designs. I wanted to see what I could take away from the standard stanford pieces and still have them easily recognizable as chess pieces. I also wanted the lines to feel more organic than my past sets. Like my other sets this set is designed to be played, so while design elements are important, it is equally important that they are each distinctive enough in look to be easily recognizable. The pieces are also designed to be easily gripped between two fingers when playing. The King stands just over 4" tall and as 1 3/4" at the base. Print with 2 shells and 18% infill on their sides . Print time runs about 20 hours for a full 32 piece set. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them
